ABOUT US
Our Story
Bishop's Ridge offers the serenity of rugged wilderness and modern city conveniences. Situated on the historic Old Santa Fe Trail, it's 25 minutes from the Santa Fe Plaza and 45 minutes from the Santa Fe Ski Basin. At 7,400 feet above sea level, Bishop's Ridge comprises more than 200 acres that were originally included in a gift to Santa Fe's Holy Faith Parish in the 1950s. Holy Faith Parish gifted the land parcel to The Diocese of the Rio Grande in the mid-1960s. Some of the original acreage was sold to establish a building fund and endowment to support the development of Bishop's Ridge. Bishop's Ridge Camp & Recreation Center has been an inviting presence in the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande for over 50 years. In 2017 we celebrated the Golden Anniversary of this beautiful retreat.
The Diocese of the Rio Grande was formed in 1952 by the General Convention of The Episcopal Church from the Missionary District of New Mexico and Southwest Texas.
The Diocese encompasses 154,000 square miles of the State of New Mexico and Far West Texas from the Pecos River to the border with Mexico along the Rio Grande.
The Rt. Rev. Michael Buerkel Hunn was elected Bishop of the Diocese of the Rio Grande on May 5, 2018. He was ordained and consecrated Bishop on November 3, 2018, and serves as chief pastor for the 15,000 members of the congregations of the Diocese.
